國內大詩人陸游在《9月1日夜觀詩稿有感》里說:我昔學詩未有得，殘余未免從人乞。從人乞就是模仿其他人的作品了。模仿是學習寫作的第一步。

英國名作家史蒂文生也說自己模仿過多位著名作家:我孜孜不倦模仿過黑茲利墨、蘭姆、華茨華斯、托馬思他把努力模仿叫做play the sedulous ape，當然是由于猿猴喜歡模仿。事實上，ape這個字本身就能解作模仿，比如:He aped the way his teacher spoke,and made everybody laugh。Play theape這成語一般和介系詞to連用，比如:Today,many girls try to win public attention by playing theape to Marilyn Monroe(今天，不少女郎模仿瑪麗蓮夢露，期望取得大眾注意）。
