1. In the middle of something?
正在忙嗎?

不少人都會(huì)說Are you busy?。其實(shí)老美也常用 In the middle of something?。但這句話比較接近于 Are you busy right now?，是問人家目前是否正在忙。Are you busy? 的含意比較廣，也可指近期忙不忙。

2. What are you up to?
你正在作什么?

大家都會(huì)說What are you doing?。What are you up to? 同樣也是問人家正在作什么。有時(shí)老美見面時(shí)也會(huì)問 What are you up to?，意思就是問你近期在干什么??？跟另一句問候語 What's up? 意思上非常接近。但你要聽清他們的語氣喔! 有時(shí) What are you up to? 指的雖然還是 What are you doing?，但它卻是你在搞什么鬼啊?的意思。比如當(dāng)你看到其他人在亂翻你的東西, 你就能責(zé)問他：Hey, what are you up to?，也就是罵他你在搞什么鬼啊？。

What are you up to? 還有一個(gè)比較常見的講解是：進(jìn)展的怎么樣了？比如朋友對你說他正在寫一部科幻小說，你就能問他：What are you up to?。

3. Shelly just called in sick.
Shelly 剛打電話來請病假。

Call in sick 是一個(gè)在辦公室內(nèi)常會(huì)用到的短語, 指的是有人打電話來講他/她生病了不可以來上班。那若是正常的請病假 要如何講? 你可以說 I need two days' sick leave. 若是由于老婆要分娩了，想要請事假 ，你可以說, I'm asking for a three-day paid/unpaid personal leave for my wife's labor^{1. 至于這個(gè)假是扣不扣錢 就要看企業(yè)的政策而定了。}

公司要裁員的講法有很多種，其中最容易見到的不外是 layoff^{2 這個(gè)詞。（lay off分開是動(dòng)詞，合起來就是名詞了。） 比如：IBM issues a profit warning, plans layoffs3. 比較口語的講法就是 cut jobs 或是 slash4 jobs。比如上一句大家也可以說 IBM plans to cut/slash jobs.}

我只不過一個(gè)平凡的朝九晚五工薪族。
